New Job
flash fiction (as read by the author!)
I wanted to get a new job so I applied to this hospital because I thought I could be a pretty good doctor and they asked me what kind of doctor and I said the kind that operates on hearts and they said they didn’t have any jobs for doctors who fix up hearts just jobs for the kinds of doctors who take your face and make it look like a different face, slightly different in some cases, but in other cases, so different your mom or dad would say, “Who the hell…?!” so I said, no thanks, that’s not why I got into medicine and they asked when exactly it was that I got into medicine and I looked at my watch. “Like, ten minutes ago.” And they noted, right then—and they could’ve said it up top—that I’d never been to medical school which was, they said, my first problem.
